Ki: Out Enjoying Life Again
Ki, a retired sewing machine operator from Korea, was
admitted to a short-term acute care hospital on December 5 with pains in her
sides. A CT scan found a life-threatening clot, so Ki was airlifted immediately to a
cardiac specialty hospital, accompanied by her husband of 47 years, Alfred.

At the cardiac hospital, during a stint placement, Ki experienced
an artery rupture. While recovering from that and the stent, pulmonary issues
developed.
On December 18, Ki was transferred to Kindred Hospital Arizona – Phoenix. The interdisciplinary team immediately began treatment that included pulmonary care and rehabilitation. Registered Occupational Therapist Vikas Batta (pictured above) was instrumental in helping Ki become more independent in activities of daily living.
Ki spent Christmas and New Year’s as a patient at Kindred Hospital Arizona
– Phoenix. On January 21, she spent her birthday with her Kindred family.
Early in her stay, Ki’s prognosis was bleak. Her physician didn’t expect her to pull through. But with time and treatment, she has recovered. Now she and her husband are enjoying their time together, especially going out for their favorite Korean food.
